You’ll also be able to contact our emergency medical assistance team 24/7 for help if you’re ill or have an accident abroad. They’ll be able to liaise with medical professionals on your behalf and arrange to get you back home if needed. 

Personal Possessions Cover - Leisure Guard Travel Insurance

Personal Possessions

Cover for your bags and belongings.  This takes care of the things you couldn’t do without while you are away. It will cover your baggage against loss, theft or damage, and will provide reimbursement for those emergency purchases if your bags are delayed at the airport.

Cancellation and Curtailment Cover - Leisure Guard Travel Insurance

Cancellation & Curtailment

If you can’t go or need to come home early (for example, due to an illness) this covers the costs you can’t get back. This now includes cover for cancellation if you have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace within the 14 days before you’re due to travel. Missed Departure Cover - Leisure Guard Travel Insurance

Missed Departure / Connection

If your car breaks down on the way to the airport, or if public transport is delayed, this covers the cost to continue your journey, including any necessary travel and accommodation expenses.

Why do you need travel insurance?

Let’s take a look at medical cover. A trip to A&E while you’re on holiday might put a dampener on your trip, but could also leave you out of pocket. Sky-high medical bills that run into 5 or 6 figures can be common in long-haul destinations like USA or the Far East, but what about closer to home?

If you’re travelling in Europe, you can still use your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or take out the new UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) to reduce to the cost of treatment in EU countries under a reciprocal health agreement with the UK. But crucially, these only entitle you to the same treatment as residents of the country you are in – meaning they won’t necessarily cover all of your bills and won’t include the cost of air ambulance to get you back to the UK.

That’s where travel insurance steps in. You can access our multi-lingual emergency medical assistance team round the clock. They can liaise with medical practitioners on your behalf, arrange payments if you’re admitted to hospital and make arrangements for repatriation back home if needed. Or if you’re a walk-in patient, keep all your notes and receipts, enjoy your trip and claim once you’re back in the UK.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

If you have a medical condition, be that a recent injury or long term health condition, it makes sense to find a travel insurance policy that will provide cover for it while you are on holiday. If you don’t let your insurer know about your conditions before you travel, it means any claim relating directly or indirectly to the condition could not be covered should you need medical treatment while you’re away.

We’re pleased to say that Leisure Guard policies offer cover for many pre-existing medical conditions subject to simple online screening.

When you get a quote online, just follow the questions on screen to go through to our secure medical screening page. You’ll be able to look up your medical condition or conditions, and answer some straightforward questions about your health and any treatment you’ve received. You’ll be given a decision right away. Some medical conditions can be covered on your travel insurance policy free of charge, and you may need to pay an additional premium to insure others.

Travel insurance cover for COVID-19

The way we travel could look very different for a while. Which is why we’ve made sure Leisure Guard policies offer you useful cover for the different ways in which COVID-19 could affect your trip.

All Leisure Guard policies include:

  • Medical cover for COVID-19 abroad
  • Cancellation cover if you test positive before your trip
  • Covered to travel if Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advice changes due to COVID-19
  • Accommodation and flights covered if you have to extend your trip to self-isolate due to a positive COVID-19 test abroad
  • Cancellation cover if you’re denied boarding due to temperature reading on outbound journey
